The fifth-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team rolled to a 53-0 rout of Pacific University tonight in the final dual of the season.
Southern Oregon finished the 2008-09 season 18-1 in dual meets. The 18 wins are a school record and are the most in the NAIA. Pacific dropped to 1-12.
The Raiders opened up the dual with back-to-back pins by Mitchell and
Trevor Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg).
Mitchell scored a pin of John Cushman in 1:06 at 125 pounds, while Trevor came away with a pin of Andrew Wolfe in :23 at 133.
Leading 12-0, Junior Valladolid then pinned Andy Duncan in 4:09 at 141 to push the lead to 18-0.
After a forfeit at 149,
Seth Roy (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) (157) and
Austin Vanderford (Ninilchik, Alaska/Ninilchik) (165) scored back-to-back decisions to push the Raider lead to 30-0.
Tyler Thomas (Salem, Ore./McKay) scored a tech fall at 174 up the lead to 41-0 and senior
Chase Locke (Tualatin, Ore./West Linn) pinned Jordan Branson in 4:35 at 197.
In all, the Raiders won three matches because of forfeit.
SOU takes part in the NAIA West Regionals next Saturday in Atherton, Calif.
