4/2/2009 11:53:44 AM

Winners of five of their last six, the Southern Oregon softball team returns to Cascade Conference play Saturday when they host Northwest Christian.

First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 11 a.m. at University Field.

Southern Oregon (7-10 overall) sits in second place in the Cascade Conference play with a 3-1 league mark. SOU's hot conference start was kick-started by a sweep of 14th-ranked Concordia last Friday.

Over the last six games, almost everything has been clicking for the Raiders.

During that stretch, the Raiders are batting .344 as a team and the team's on base percentage is .419.

Sophomore outfielder Meghan Laughlin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) is leading the SOU offense with a .450 batting average over the last six games, including two doubles and two triples.

During the same stretch, Strohm Fouty (Polson, Mont./Polson) (.389), Justin Fulton (Reno, Nev./McQueen) (.375), Joelle Riekeman (Riddle, Ore./Riddle) (.333), Jordyn Kurtz (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) (.333) and Bailey Price (Napa, Calif./Vintage) (.333) are all hitting over .300.

On the mound, Kurtz is starting to come into her own. During the current run, Kurtz is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA and has recorded 29 strikeouts.

Northwest Christian comes into Saturday's action with a 6-5 overall record and a 1-3 conference record. Northwest's lone conference win came in a doubleheader split with Eastern Oregon.

The Beacons feature a pair of starting pitchers with ERA's under 2.0. Brooke Davis is 4-2 on the year with a 1.83 ERA and Kalyssa Koontz is 1-3 with a 1.88 ERA.

Offensively, Northwest Christian is led by Brittany Robles' .455 batting average and Davis' six home runs.

After Saturday's doubleheader, the Raiders hit the road for six straight.
