The Southern Oregon volleyball team overcame a sluggish first set to knock off Concordia 18-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 in the opening match of the 2009 Raider Classic.
Top-ranked Fresno Pacific defeated Oregon Tech 25-8, 25-16, 25-15 in just 61 minutes in the second match of the day.
Tonight Oregon Tech will face Concordia and Southern Oregon will battle Fresno Pacific.
Five aces in six attempts by Concordia's Raluca Dinca helped the Cavs win the first set 25-18, but after that it was all SOU.
Megan Bartling (Medford, Ore./North Medford) got the ball rolling for the Raiders in the second set with a pair of kills for a 5-0 lead. Another Bartling kill pushed the lead to 18-12 and the Raiders rolled.
In the third set, the Raiders rattled off seven straight points to take a 20-9 lead, highlighted by kills by
Leanne Stennett (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito),
Leah Bergstrom (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and
Heather Porter (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield).
In the finale, SOU hit just .094 but still came away with the victory.

Chelsea Hartman (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) made the most of her first collegiate action, recording a match-high 12 kills and Stennett added 11. Red-shirt freshman setter
Angela Spieker (Bremerton, Wash./Central Kitsap) and freshman setter
Caryn Westrick (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake) both had 22 assists for the Raiders.
