The Southern Oregon volleyball team went 2-0 during the first day of the Fresno Pacific Sunbird Invitational today in Fresno.
To kick off the tournament, SOU defeated Cornerstone University 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 29-27 and then turned around and made quick work of Westminster College 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 this afternoon.
The Raiders are now 4-1 on the season and face Biola and Menlo Saturday.
In the opener, SOU was led by
Leah Bergstrom (West Linn, Ore./West Linn),
Heather Porter (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield),
Chelsea Hartman (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) and
Megan Bartling (Medford, Ore./North Medford).
Bergstrom finished with a team-high 11 kills, while Porter and Hartman both had 10 kills. Bartling finished with nine kills and only one error to go along with a match-high six blocks.
Becky Johnstone (Lake Arrowhead, Calif./Rim of the World) finished with 14 digs to lead SOU.
Against Westminster it was Bergstrom who led the way. The junior turned in a match-high 13 kills for the Raiders.
Senior
Corynn Jorgensen (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) finished with 10 digs for the Raiders.
