Thanks to an upset of 20th-ranked Biola, the Southern Oregon volleyball team went 4-0 during this weekend's Fresno Pacific Sunbird Invitational.
The Raiders knocked off Biola 25-23, 18-25, 25-22, 25-17 to open the day and then turned around and defeated Menlo 24-26, 25-16, 26-24, 25-22 to wrap up the tournament unbeaten.
Southern Oregon is now 6-1 in preseason play and opens Cascade Conference play next Friday at home against Warner Pacific.
In the opener, juniors
Chelsea Hartman (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) and
Leah Bergstrom (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) led the Raiders offensively and
Megan Bartling (Medford, Ore./North Medford) led the team defensively.
Hartman had 15 kills and Bergstrom finished with 13 kills, while Bartling had a part in 12 blocks.
Becky Johnstone (Lake Arrowhead, Calif./Rim of the World) finished with a match-high 15 digs for the Raiders.
Biola finished last year ranked second in the final NAIA Top 25 poll.
Hartman and Bergstrom also led the Raiders in the victory over Menlo.
After dropping the first set, the Raiders came back and hit an amazing .652 to win the second set and take control of the match.
Hartman finished with a career-high 25 kills and just two errors. Bergstrom had 17 kills and only two errors. Freshman setter
