The 18th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team took down Northwest University 25-12, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14 tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
Southern Oregon improved to 10-2 on the year and 4-1 in Cascade Conference play. Northwest fell to 4-9 overall and 3-1 in league action. The Raiders host Evergreen State Saturday night.
Leah Bergstrom (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) led SOU with 12 kills.
Heather Porter (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) and
Chelsea Hartman (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) finished with nine kills and
Megan Bartling (Medford, Ore./North Medford) and
Leanne Stennett (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito) both had eight kills. Bartling had zero errors for the night and finished with three blocks, while Porter had a hand in eight.
The Raiders wasted little time in the first set, racing out to leads of 17-7 and 23-8, while hold the Eagles to a -.125 attack percentage. In the second set, SOU hit .250 to secure the victory, but the Eagles rallied in the third set, taking advantage of 10 SOU errors to force a fourth set.
In the fourth set, SOU again jumped out early with back-to-back kills by Bartling and Bergstrom for a 6-2 lead.
Hartman had a pair of kills as the Raiders pushed the lead to 16-9.
Corynn Jorgensen (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) then served for eight straight points to extend the Raider advantage to 24-13 and Stennett ended the match with a kill.
Jorgensen, in her first game this year as the starting libero, had a match-high 28 digs and
Angela Spieker (Bremerton, Wash./Central Kitsap) finished with 30 assists.
