Epic Comeback Sparks Raiders Over Corban

After dropping the first two sets, the 16th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team played some of its best volleyball of the year to defeat Corban 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-3 tonight in Salem.

Southern Oregon improved to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in Cascade Conference play. Corban dropped to 4-11 overall and 3-4 in conference action.

The Warriors held the Raiders to a .080 and .156 attack percentage in the first two sets to put the Raiders' backs right against the wall.

Southern Oregon responded by hitting .452 in the third set, with 16 kills and only two errors to start the SOU comeback. The Raiders then hit .357 to tie the match in the fourth set and then took compete control in the fifth set.

The Raiders jumped out to a 9-1 lead on a Becky Johnstone (Lake Arrowhead, Calif./Rim of the World) ace and then a kill by Chelsea Hartman (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) ended the comeback with a 15-3 victory.

Hartman finished with a match-high 18 kills for SOU. Heather Porter (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) finished with 17 kills and Leanne Stennett (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito) had 10 kills and 16 digs.
