The Southern Oregon volleyball team opened up Cascade Conference play with a 25-15, 29-27, 25-15 sweep of Warner Pacific tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders have now won six in a row and improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Knights dropped to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
The Raiders host Concordia Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Junior
Leah Bergstrom (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) had a match-high 10 kills to lead the Raiders, while
Megan Bartling (Medford, Ore./North Medford),
Natalie Scheller (Bend, Ore./Bend) and
Chelsea Hartman (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) all had six kills. Scheller had zero errors and Bartling had one error.
Becky Johnson had a match-high 22 digs for SOU.
SOU jumped out quick on the Knights in the opening set, taking a 9-2 lead on a Johnstone ace.
Despite hitting .341 in the second set, the Raiders struggled passing the ball and the Knights hung tough with a pair of opportunities to win the set before a pair of Warner Pacific errors gave the victory to the Raiders.
In the third set, SOU jumped out of the gate again with a 13-1 run and never looked back.
Megan Marineau led the Knights with 10 kills.
