Austin Vanderford (Ninilchik, Alaska/Ninilchik) scored an individual championship and also took home the Outstanding Wrestler honors at today's SOU Open at McNeal Pavilion.
Vanderford defeated Oregon State's Cody Weishoff 7-6 in the championship match at 174 pounds to score SOU's only championship. The championship and six falls during the two-day event was more then enough for the Alaskan native to be awarded the tourney's Outstanding Wrestler honor.
Vanderford defeated Lassen's Alfonso Estrada and Great Falls' Noah Hatton on his way to the title match.

Jimmy Eggemeyer (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) and
Kyle Wirkuty (Portland, Ore./Centennial) finishing fifth and sixth at 149,
Brock Crocker (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) finishing fourth at 157 and
Derek Rottenberg (Red Bluff, Calif./Red Bluff) and
Tyler Thomas (Salem, Ore./McKay) finishing fourth and seventh at 184.
