Southern Oregon's
Austin Vanderford (Ninilchik, Alaska/Ninilchik) led the Southern Oregon wrestling team at today's Reno Tournament of Champion today.
Vanderford advanced to the quarterfinals at 174 pounds before falling.
Vanderford opened the tournament with a 14-2 major decision over NCAA Division I Branden Lietz of Appalachian State and then an 11-3 major decision victory over NCAA Division II Mark Mabry of Adams State.
Vanderford dropped a 10-3 decision in the quarters to eventual tourney runner-up Jake Swartz of Boise State.
Vanderford then fell in the consolation round.
Tommie Hooper (Burns, Ore./Burns) and
Kyle Wirkuty (Portland, Ore./Centennial) both won a match each in the consolation bracket.
Southern Oregon returns to action on Dec. 28 when they host Simon Fraser at 1 p.m.
