The 11
th-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team clinched its 41
st straight winning season with a 46-6 rout of Pacific tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders improve to 8-4 with the victory and travel to Simon Fraser next week. Pacific fell to 0-10 on the season.
The 41 straight winning seasons started back in 1970-71 when legendary coach Bob Riehm led the Raiders to an 11-2 record. During the streak, the Raiders are 398-131-2 in dual meets.
Southern Oregon benefitted by three Pacific forfeits to start the dual with an 18-0 lead.
The lead was pushed to 24-0 when sophomore
Jimmy Eggemeyer (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) pinned Devin Silva in 2:28 at 149 pounds for a 24-0 SOU lead.
After the Raiders upped the lead to 27-0 with a decision by
Dalton Urrutia (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) at 157, Pacific got on the board with a pin by Nathan Shay at 165.
Third-ranked
Austin Vanderford (Ninilchik, Alaska/Ninilchik) got the Raiders rolling again at 174. Vanderford jumped out to a 10-1 lead before scoring a fall in the second period in 3:24.
Tenth-ranked
Derek Rottenberg (Red Bluff, Calif./Red Bluff) followed up Vanderford's pin with a quick pin for himself, taking care of Jordan Branson in 1:25 at 184.
Ron Lee (197) and
Sam Sprauer (Woodburn, Ore./Silverton) (285) wrapped up the victories for the Raiders.
