The 11th-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team had to forfeit three matches and fell to Simon Fraser 28-16 tonight in Burnaby, B.C.
The Raiders fell to 8-5 on the season and will compete in the Boxer Open this weekend.
Back-to-back wins by
Jared Dalgleish (Kelso, Wash./Kelso) (133 pounds) and
Kyle Wirkuty (Portland, Ore./Centennial) (141) gave the Raiders an early 9-4 advantage.
After having to forfeit at 149, the Raiders came back to score a decision by
Justin Mills (Lakeport, Calif./Clear Lake) (157) and a major decision by freshman
Tucker Van Matre (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) (165) for a 16-10 lead with four matches remaining.
The Clan scored decision victories at 174 and 184 to tie the dual at 16-16 and then won the dual with forfeit victories at 197 and 285.
The Raiders will return to dual action on Feb. 5 when they host Montana State-Northern on the day the gym inside McNeal Pavilion will be dedicated to longtime wrestling coach Bob Riehm.
