Raiders Sweep Warner Pacific to Close Out Portland Trip

PORTLAND, Ore. –
Southern Oregon closed out its weekend trip to Portland with a 3-0 sweep of Warner Pacific (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action at C.C. Perry Gym.

With the win, 18th-ranked Southern Oregon improves to 12-4 overall and 9-2 in conference play. Warner Pacific falls to 2-10 overall and 1-10 in the CCC. The Raiders return to action Wednesday, when they host Oregon Tech in a CCC match at 7 p.m. at Bob Riehm Arena.

Warner Pacific led by three early in the first set, using a 6-1 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Raiders responded with six straight points to take a three-point lead of their own, but the Knights tied it up at 16-16. At that point, the Raiders ran off the next nine points, including a pair of service aces by Angela Spieker (Bremerton, Wash./Central Kitsap) and a pair of kills by Sarah Holgen (Honolulu, Hawaii/Ashland), to earn the 25-16 opening-set win.

The second set featured 13 tie scores, including 19-19, before the Raiders used a 6-2 run to pull away to the 25-21 victory. In the final set, Southern Oregon scored 12 of the first 15 points and took a 10-point lead at 17-7. Natalie Scheller (Bend, Ore./Bend) picked up the final two kills to clinch the match for the visitors.

Holgen tied Warner Pacific's Carly Barker for the match-high with nine total kills, Holgen's lowest total of the season. Bartling added eight kills for the Raiders to go with a .667 attack percentage. Renee Yomtob (Boise, Idaho/Centennial) tallied 14 digs for SOU and Spieker led the team with 12 assists. Kelsey Kurtz finished with a match-high 29 assists for WPC.
