ASHLAND, Ore. – 2010 national champion and top-ranked Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) opened the action with a pin of Coleman Johns (Placerville, Calif./El Dorado) in the first of 22 matches as the Black rolled 74-13 in the 48th annual Red & Black Intrasquad Wednesday night at Bob Riehm Arena.

The preseason No. 1 Raiders open the 2011 regular season Saturday afternoon when they host Embry-Riddle at 1 p.m. For the first time, the Red & Black featured seven challenge matches for varsity spots in Saturday's Dual.

“We looked ready to wrestle for Saturday,” SOU head coach Mike Richey said. “We've got some work to do, but overall we looked fundamentally pretty sound and the upperclassmen held true to their experience and taught the younger guys some lessons.”

Tyler Lander (Roseurg, Ore./Roseburg) defeated Juan Aguilar (Medford, Ore./South Medford) in a 12-4 major decision in the first challenge match to earn the starting spot in the 125-pound weight class. Jordan Lowe (Keizer, Ore./McNary) earned the spot at 133 in a 6-4 decision over Miguel Baltazar (Culver, Ore./Culver). Trinity Castner (Winston, Ore./Douglas) clinched the 141 spot with a 4-0 decision over Travis Patrick (Castle Rock, Wash./Castle Rock). Kyle Wirkuty (Portland, Ore./Centennial) took the 149 spot with a 3-1 decision over Jimmy Eggemeyer (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak). Brock Crocker (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) defeated Dalton Urrutia (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) 7-6 for the 157 spot. Tucker Van Matre (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) pinned his brother Nick Van Matre (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) in 2:47 to earn the 165 spot and Tyler Thomas (Salem, Ore./McKay) defeated Brian Lemmon (Heppner, Ore./) in a 5-3 decision for the 174 spot.
