The Southern Oregon softball team split a pair of games today at the Cal Baptist Ringor So Cal Smash.

The Raiders defeated Simpson 7-1 in the first game and then fell to top-ranked Cal Baptist 9-1 this afternoon.

For the second straight day, SOU's offense was jump started by sophomore Rayna Okimoto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Aiea). Okimoto went 2-for-3 against Simpson, including her third home run in two days.

Simpson, who is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 rankings, and Southern Oregon battled through three scoreless frames before the Raiders broke through in the bottom of the fourth.

Okimoto led of the frame with a shot over the wall in left for a 1-0 lead. Simpson scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth before SOU blew the game open.

A walk and a fielder's choice had a pair of runners on for senior Sarah Wharton (Ontario, Ore./Ontario). Wharton responded with a run-scoring double. Brooke Springer (Omak, Wash./Omak), Gia DiMaggio (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa) and Okimoto had back-to-back-to-back singles for the Raiders and Julia Willison (Reno, Nevada/McQueen) had a double to right-center as the Raiders scored six for a 7-1 lead that would hold thanks to the pitching of Jessica Flores (Corning, Calif./Corning) and Karlie Stephens (Eagle Point, Ore./Eagle Point).

Flores pitched four-and-a-third, giving up five hits and an unearned run to pick up the victory. Stevens came in relief and allowed just five hits and struck out three in almost three innings of work.

In the nightcap, the long ball helped Cal Baptist roll. Sloan McHann had two home runs and Kendall Gorham had one as the Lancers scored three in the second, one in third and five in the fourth.

Okimoto, Melissa Corn (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) and Wharton had the three hits for the Raiders.

SOU faces Davenport and Simpson tomorrow in the final day of the tournament.
