Box Score 2 ASHLAND – Southern Oregon took a first-inning lead in both games as the Raiders swept Northwest Christian 3-2 and 6-2 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader Friday afternoon at University Field.
Southern Oregon improves to 16-12 overall and 6-6 in conference play, while Northwest Christian falls to 7-22 overall and 3-7 in the CCC. Both teams return to action tomorrow, when the Raiders will host Concordia and the Beacons will face Oregon Tech. Southern Oregon will honor its three seniors at 10:30 a.m. Saturday before the 11 a.m. first game, and fans are encouraged to wear pink as SOU partners with Providence for Strike Out Breast Cancer.

2012 SB vs. Northwest Christian GalleryJordyn Kurtz (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) earned the complete-game victory, limiting the Beacons to a pair of runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. Kurtz also picked up a pair of hits in the win for the Raiders. Brooke Davis threw five innings and took the loss for NCU, yielding three runs on five hits.
Kurtz and
Julia Willison (Reno, Nevada/McQueen) each tallied two hits for the Raiders, while Chelsea Hannon finished with a pair of hits for Northwest Christian.
Southern Oregon took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Raiders had a chance for more when they loaded the bases with one out and stranded three on base.
Alyssa Miller (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) singled to open the inning and stole second base, coming in to score on a
Katie Moy (Oceanside, Calif./Vista) opposite field home run. Kutz and Willison followed with a pair of singles, and
Sierra Anderson (Portland, Ore./Sunset) walked to load the bases.
Jessica Flores (Corning, Calif./Corning) popped up to second and
Melissa Corn (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Northwest Christian tied it up with two runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. Davis, Amanda Reiss and Chelsea Hannon led off with consecutive singles, with Davis scoring on Hannon's base hit. A couple batters later, Addy Hoskins singled through the right side to give the Beacons their second run.
The Raiders scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the sixth. Moy walked, and
Sarah Silbowitz (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) came in to pinch run at first base. Kurtz followed with a single up the middle, and Silbowitz scored from second on Willison's single down the left field line.

Karlie Stephens (Eagle Point, Ore./Eagle Point) earned the win for Southern Oregon, giving up two runs on nine hits in seven innings. Jenna Royce started and took the loss for Northwest Christian, yielding five runs on six hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Kurtz added two more hits for the Raiders, including a two-run home run in the first inning. Davis and Hannon each tallied a pair of hits for Northwest Christian.
Southern Oregon scored three runs in the top of the first.
Ashley Lowe (Sacramento, Calif./Ck. McClatchy) walked and scored when Kurtz drilled a line drive home run to left, and Willison followed with a solo shot. The Raiders added a run in the third inning.
Alyssa Miller (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) singled through the right side, stole second and scored on Moy's double down the left field line.
The Raiders added a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Anderson singled to lead off the fourth and advanced to second on Corn's sacrifice bunt. Stephens singled home the run to make it 5-0 SOU. Lowe led off the fifth inning reaching base on an NCU error. She advanced to second on a groundout and scored on Kurtz's single up the middle.
Northwest Christian scored a run in the top of the sixth and added one more in the seventh. Hoskins singled up the middle to lead off the sixth and scored on Davis' single up the middle. In the seventh, Hannon doubled to left center with one out and scored on Jazzmyne Villaruel's single to left.
