PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The second-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team finished 2-1 at Friday afternoon's Mile High Duals, taking down host Embry-Riddle 38-9 and defeating New Mexico Highlands 32-12 before falling to NCAA Div. II No. 12 Grand Canyon 23-12.

"We wrestled well today, we had good intensity and were dominant in some of our matches but didn't win enough close matches to have perfect day," SOU head coach Mike Ritchey said. "We hope to pick up some more intensity tomorrow as we will wrestle some Div. I, II and NAIA schools."

Southern Oregon goes to 8-2 in dual meets this season, with the lone losses coming to NAIA No. 1 Grand View and NCAA Div. II No. 12 Grand Canyon. The Raiders return to action Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Open, with SOU's next dual a road matchup at Pacific on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Top-ranked Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) won all three of his 125-pound matchups on the day, including a pair of pins and a 14-4 major decision victory over NCAA No. 2 Kyle McCrite. Prescott Garner (West Linn, Ore./West Linn), the NAIA's top-ranked 133-pounder, finished 1-1 with a major decision victory over Embry-Riddle's Mason Saldana and a 4-3 loss to Grand Canyon's Lino Estrada. Third-ranked Miguel Baltazar (Culver, Ore./Culver) earned an 11-3 major decision victory over New Mexico Highlands' Anthony Munoz in the other 133-pound matchup.

Southern Oregon's other two top-ranked wrestlers each finished 3-0. Jimmy Eggemeyer (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) swept the 149-pound matchups, with his most impressive win a 3-2 victory over NCAA No. 3 Bobby Ward. Brock Gutches (Central Point, Ore./Crater) pinned Embry-Riddle's Jose Cruz, III, and earned decision victories over Easton Hargrave and Martin Fabbian. Fourth-ranked Taylor Johnson (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) dominated his three matchups as well, with one pin and two major decision victories.

Overall for the day, Southern Oregon won 19 of 30 matchups en route to the two dual wins and one loss.

"We had some quality competition today and that is where you find your weaknesses," Ritchey said. "We will need to work on that as the season progresses toward the post season."
