Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University made a shorthanded Southern Oregon volleyball team work Friday night, but Paulla Pinheiro (Fortaleza, Brazil/Colegio Farias Brito) put down 19 kills to make sure the Raiders escaped with a four-set Cascade Conference win.

Playing without injured middles Emma Gasman (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan) and Sam Boehnke (Ashland, Ore./Ashland), Pinheiro picked up the slack by attacking at a .357 clip and Mona Goudarzian (Albany, Ore./West Albany) piled up 13 kills and 17 digs in the 25-23, 25-13, 21-25, 25-13 decision.

The Raiders (14-7 overall, 10-3 CCC) have won six straight overall and 21 in a row against Northwest (7-16, 3-10).

SOU had to hold off the Eagles in the first set when they tied the score at 21-all with six straight points, but three NU errors and Pinheiro's kill put the Raiders in the driver's seat for good. After their third-set loss, they took 21 of the first 28 points in the fourth.

Nikki Keller (Carson City, Nev./Carson) led the Raiders in the middle with nine kills on 18 swings. She and Abbie Hanser (Billings, Mont./Billings Central Catholic) both assisted five blocks to help limit NU to .068 hitting. Gasman, the most efficient hitter in the league, was injured in practice before the Raiders departed for Washington on Thursday and Boehnke went down a week earlier.

Raider setter Lauren McGowne (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) had another stellar night with 45 assists and nine digs. Renee Yomtob (Boise, Idaho/Centennial) added 21 digs, Brookelynn Cole (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) had 12 and Pinheiro accounted for three of SOU's seven service aces.

The Eagles got 11 kills out of Olivia Vandlac and 10 from Sarah Stoker.

The Raiders will visit Evergreen on Saturday night. They moved into a tie with third-place Concordia in the loss column Friday as the Cavaliers went down in four sets at Eastern Oregon.
