Raiders advance 24 to SOU Open's championship rounds

ASHLAND – Twenty-four Southern Oregon University wrestlers made it out of play pool Saturday and advanced to Sunday's championship rounds of the SOU Open.

Wrestling will get underway at 9 a.m. Sunday. The finals are scheduled to begin around 11 a.m.

The Raiders, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, had 12 individuals who won their respective four-person pools: Jacob Stigall (Hubbard, Ore./North Marion) (125 pounds), Francis Llorente (Kodia, Alaska/Kodiak) (133), Tanner Canaday (Myrtle Point, Ore./Myrtle Point) (141), Johnathon Gay (Clovis, Calif./Clovis) (141), Chance Lindquist (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) (141), Tyler Cowger (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) (149), Lucas Randall (Hubbard, Ore./North Marion) (157), Brock Crocker (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) (165), Dalton Urrutia (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) (165), Brock Gutches (Central Point, Ore./Crater) (174), Jacob Abrams (The Dalles, Ore./The Dalles-Wahtonka) (184) and Tucker Van Matre (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) (184).

Twelve more Raiders advanced by placing second in their pools: Thomas Gowing (125), Craig Trask (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) (157), James Bowers (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) (149), Travis Patrick (Castle Rock, Wash./Castle Rock) (157), Garrett Urrutia (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) (165), Cody Jones (Dallas, Ore./Dallas) (165), Kyle Riggs (Lowell, Ore./Lowell) (165), Chris Moreno (Santa Rosa, Calif./Cardinal Newman) (174), Chris Berg (Ukiah, Calif./Ukiah) (197), Clayton Burtis (Colton, Ore./Colton) (285), Chance Crane (Myrtle Creek, Ore./South Umpqua) (285) and Zach Gill (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) (285).

Ten schools were represented at the Open. Last year, the Raiders had three individual champions.
