HAVRE, Mont. – Montana State-Northern, the second-ranked wrestling team in the NAIA, lived up to its billing Thursday night in a 36-12 win against No. 7 Southern Oregon at Armory Gymnasium.

Top-ranked Brock Gutches (Central Point, Ore./Crater) won by fall for the Raiders, pinning Jared Miller (Dillingham, Alaska/Dillingham) in 2 minutes, 24 seconds in the 174-pound bout. But SOU acquired its only other points in a forfeit awarded to Tyler Cowger (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) at 149 pounds.

Cameron Neiss (141 pounds), Ethan Hinebauch (165) and Garrett DeMers each had pins for Northern.

SOU was wrestling without top-ranked Taylor Johnson (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) (197) and fifth-ranked Jacob Abrams (The Dalles, Ore./The Dalles-Wahtonka) (184).

The Raiders travel Friday to No. 6 Great Falls (Mont.) for a dual and will round out the week Sunday at the Spokane (Wash.) Open.
