Box Score PORTLAND – The Southern Oregon Raiders had one comeback in them, but not quite two Saturday in a five-set loss to the Concordia volleyball team.

After dropping the first two sets, the Raiders (16-9 overall, 13-5 Cascade Conference) rallied to force a fifth. Facing a 14-6 deficit there, they strung together five straight points but couldn't hold the Cavs off any longer as a block by Mariah Raudsepp and Brianna Hogan ended it.

With the 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 17-25, 15-11 win, the Cavs (21-6, 14-4) earned the No. 3 seed in the six-team CCC Championships and will host No. 6 Oregon Tech in a quarterfinal match Tuesday. Bounced to No. 4, the Raiders will host No. 5 Northwest Christian on that same night.

Hogan bothered the Raiders all match with 14 kills on 41 attacks. Jackie Stein posted identical numbers to Hogan's while Raudsepp and and Melanie Miller combined for 18 kills and 10 assisted blocks in the middle.

Southern Oregon, which was swept by the Cavs in September, appeared to be headed for the same outcome before the night took a sharp turn in the third set. The Raiders went from attacking at averages of .116  and .174 with 16 hitting errors in the first two, to hitting .310 and .275 in the next two. Five more attacking errors sealed their fate in the fifth, though.

Paulla Pinheiro (Fortaleza, Brazil/Colegio Farias Brito)'s 17 kills, 13 assists and four service aces led the way. Lauren McGowne (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield)'s 55 assists also helped Mona Goudarzian (Albany, Ore./West Albany) to 15 kills and Liz Madden (Manson, Wash./Manson) to a season-high 14, and Nikki Keller (Carson City, Nev./Carson) posted nine kills on 17 swings.

The Raiders stormed out to leads of 14-7 and 18-7 in the third and fourth sets, but couldn't sustain the momentum in the fifth when three Hogan kills put CU in the driver's seat up 7-1.

Tuesday's match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bob Riehm Arena. SOU and NCU split the season series, both sweeping on their home floors, with the Raiders winning most recently on Oct. 18. The winner will head to Caldwell, Idaho, where the last two rounds will be played on conference-champ College of Idaho's home floor.
