Box Score EUGENE — The Northwest Christian volleyball team snapped a seven-year string of futility against Southern Oregon on Saturday night in emphatic fashion.

The Beacons swept the Raiders 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 at the Morse Event Center, and in doing so broke into the win column for the first time in 14 meetings between the schools.

Janel Fetters controlled the floor with 13 kills on 26 attacks and 10 digs. Maren Mansfield added eight kills, Cori Wallace had 33 assists and the Beacons (7-2 overall, 2-0 Cascade Conference) attacked at a .270 clip to SOU's .172.

The loss was the first for the Raiders (4-5, 1-1) since dropping their first four to start the season. Liz Madden (Manson, Wash./Manson) put away nine kills for the second straight night and Emma Gasman (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan) had seven on 11 attacks, but there were few other bright spots.

In the first set, SOU gave up points on eight attacking errors and in the third, seven more. That put their averages at .083 and .074 when they hadn't dipped under .300 for a match since the win streak began.

Northwest Christian also snuck in 12 service aces to SOU's two, getting five out of Chandler Gabrio. And the Raiders were only able to disrupt NCU with four blocks.

Renee Yomtob (Boise, Idaho/Centennial) led the Raiders again with a match-high 11 digs and setter Lindsay Verboort (Salem, Ore./South Salem) spread out 22 assists.

The Raiders will be back in action Friday at Oregon Tech, which also split with a win at Corban this weekend.
