Raiders score four times in second half for 5-1 win at OIT

KLAMATH FALLS – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team showed some major signs of life Saturday just in time for the playoffs, scoring four second-half goals for a 5-1 win at Oregon Tech in the regular-season finale.

Kelsey Randall (Concord, Calif./Concord) tallied two goals and one assist, Megan McArthur (San Jose, Calif./Presentation) scored twice and Serena DeChristofaro (Martinez, Calif./Alhambra) tacked on the final goal for the Raiders (5-10-1 overall), who went 4-4-1 in Cascade Conference play.

The Raiders were already guaranteed a spot in the CCC tournament, but now their quarterfinal destination is locked in: With the No. 6 seed, they'll travel to face third-seeded Corban on Nov. 5.

Corban won the regular-season game against SOU, 1-0 in Salem on Oct. 4.

Fifth-seeded Warner Pacific plays at No. 4 College of Idaho in the other quarterfinal. League champion Northwest will await the lowest remaining seed in the semis, and second-place Concordia will host the other quarterfinal survivor.

Regardless of the game's implications (or lack thereof), the shot of momentum can't hurt the Raiders, who had failed to score more than one goal in their last five games and hadn't scored five since a win against Corban on Oct. 5 of last year.

Oregon Tech (5-10-2, 0-7-2) scored first in the 22nd minute when a failed clear led to Amanda Hisey's 18-yard shot.

The equalizer belonged to McArthur in the 26th, a chip-shot via Randall's corner kick. Her next goal, in the 58th minute, put the Raiders up 2-1 after she stole a loose ball and shot it from 18 yards out over Owl keeper Rebekah Matteri's head.

Randall was next just 78 seconds later with a five-yard score that she set up by intercepting OIT's failed clear, and Kendra Madaras-Kelly (Boise, Idaho/Mountain View) and Presley Lambert (Santa Clarita, Calif./Hart) assisted her next goal in the 62 minute from just outside the box.

DeChristofaro's second goal in the last two weeks was assisted by Avery Dutton (Windsor, Calif./Cardinal Newman) in the 79th as she beat the keeper for an easy score.

The Raiders are 4-1 this season when they score more than one goal.

McArthur has a team-high five now and Randall has four. The multi-score games were the first of their careers.

Kylie Moltzen (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) was credited with the keeper win, collecting six saves in a complete game.
