CORVALLIS – Brock Gutches (Central Point, Ore./Crater) made sure Southern Oregon got out of Gill Coliseum with one win Thursday night before Oregon State's celebration got underway.

Gutches' win by fall was the Beavers' lone blemish as they became the third collegiate program with 1,000 dual-meet victories with a 43-6 triumph over the Raiders.

In the 174-pound bout, Gutches trailed Joe Latham 5-2 in the final round before a grab-and-throw gave Gutches an abrupt pin 5:46 into the spat. Latham went 29-16 and was an NCAA Championships qualifier last season.

The Beavers, ranked 20th in the USA Today's NCAA poll and winners of the last three Pac-12 titles, scored bonus points in seven weight classes. Jack Hathaway (133) and Devin Reynolds (141) both had pins, while Ronnie Bresser (125), Abraham Rodriguez (149) and Taylor Meeks (184) won by technical fall.

"OSU beat us with good, hard wrestling," Raider coach Mike Ritchey said. "We weren't prepared for that kind of intensity yet. We'll use this as a lesson."

SOU 157-pounder Dalton Urrutia (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) battled Joey Delgado in what amounted to a 7-5 loss after Urrutia surrendered a point for riding time. Garrett Urrutia (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) was competitive at 165 pounds, losing 9-5 to Roseburg product Seth Thomas.

Taylor Johnson (Redmond, Ore./Redmond), SOU's second-ranked 197-pounder, had to concede an injury-default loss.

The win was the 100th at Oregon State for coach Jim Zalesky, who formerly led University of Iowa to three national titles before he was let go and headed to Corvallis following the 2006 season.

SOU, ranked second in the NAIA, hosts No. 3 Great Falls (Mont.) next Thursday night at Riehm Arena.
