Four Raiders claim titles at Nor Cal Collegiate Open

REDDING, Calif. – Four wrestlers representing second-ranked Southern Oregon University won titles Saturday at the Nor Cal Collegiate Open.

Tyler Cowger (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) won at 149 pounds, Brock Gutches (Central Point, Ore./Crater) at 174, Jacob Abrams (The Dalles, Ore./The Dalles-Wahtonka) at 184 and Taylor Johnson (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) at 197. SOU also won the team title with 196 points, beating out Great Falls (164.5) and San Francisco University (133).

Placing second for the Raiders were Devin Poppen (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) at 133 pounds and Clayton Burtis (Colton, Ore./Colton) at heavyweight. Dalton Urrutia (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) and Travis Patrick (Castle Rock, Wash./Castle Rock) settled on a tie for third place at 157, and freshmen Casey Coulter (Grants Pass, Ore./Grants Pass) (125) and Max Hane (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) (184) were both fourth.

"It was a nice way to conclude our preseason," SOU coach Mike Ritchey said. "The champions wrestled extremely well."

Complete individual results have not been provided.

SOU is off until a Dec. 17 dual at Simpson.
