ASHLAND – Kyle Sether (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) and Clayton Burtis (Colton, Ore./Colton) earned their way into the second-ranked Southern Oregon University wrestling team's lineup Wednesday night with challenge-match wins in the 46^th annual Black & Red Instrasquad at Riehm Arena.

The Black squad, which was the more seasoned of the two, won 66-18. The event was a precursor to Friday's season-opening dual meet, which will keep the Raiders at home against 10^th-ranked Menlo at 8:30 p.m.

Sether, a freshman from Oregon City representing the Red team, reserved a spot in the 141-pound event of that dual by winning a 4-3 decision against Tanner Canaday (Myrtle Point, Ore./Myrtle Point). A two-point reversal by Burtis, a returning All-American, in the final round of his bout with Alejandro Sandoval (Canby, Ore./Canby) made him a 4-3 victor in the 285-pound finale.

In the only clash featuring two nationally-ranked wrestlers, No. 9 Ryan McWatters (Hesperia, Calif./Sultana) jumped on No. 3 Jacob Abrams (The Dalles, Ore./The Dalles-Wahtonka), 7-3, at 184 pounds.

Recording pins were sixth-ranked Dalton Urrutia (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) at 157 pounds, Ryan Jurgens (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) at 184 and second-ranked Taylor Johnson (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) at 197 – all for the black team. Devin Poppen (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) (133) and top-ranked Brock Gutches (Central Point, Ore./Crater) (174) scored technical falls.

"We got through it without getting anyone hurt, we got our lineup set, and we're looking forward to Friday," SOU coach Mike Ritchey said.
