Bench scores 46 points in SOU's 83-58 triumph at Maritime

VALLEJO, Calif. – Forty-six bench points lifted the Southern Oregon women's basketball team to an 83-58 win at Cal Maritime in a nonleague game Saturday afternoon at Mayo Hall.

Bree Park (Bellingham, Wash./Meridian) scored 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting from 3-point range, and the Raiders went 10-for-20 from outside as a team – matching their most 3s made in a game over the last six seasons. Autumn Durand (Onalaska, Wash./Onalaska) had 13 points and seven rebounds, and reserve Brenna Anderson (Burlington, Wash./Burlington-Edison) went for a season-high 10 points with seven rebounds.

The 15th-ranked Raiders improved to 9-1 overall with another nonleague contest coming up against Pacific Union at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Playing with some typical post-finals-week rust, SOU fell behind 30-21 early when the Keelhaulers (5-4) ran off 14 straight points. The Raiders answered by heading into the break with a 16-4 run – during which park made two of her triples – and took control with another 10-2 surge to start the second half.

The Raiders shot 46 percent from the field (29-for-63) and had a 49-38 rebounding advantage. Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go with seven points and three assists, while Carly Meister (Elma, Wash./Elma) added eight boards.

Durand went 2-for-3 from downtown and Kristen Schoenherr (Rainier, Wash./Rainier) converted both of her attempts from outside in tallying nine points. The bench went 16-for-33 as a unit, also getting seven points apiece from Courtney West (Sydney, Australia/Port Hacking) and Tiani Bradford (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City), who added five rebounds.

"(The bench) stepped up today," SOU head coach Lynn Kennedy said. "Brenna and Bree made shots and Tiani played great defense."

Cal Maritime went 7-for-35 from the field after halftime.

SOU also defeated the Keelhaulers 80-48 on Nov. 21 in Klamath Falls.
