Raiders rally and hang on for 67-63 win at Warner Pacific

PORTLAND – The 13th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team was tested again Saturday night by Warner Pacific, but this time the Raiders prevailed late by owning the frontcourt in a 67-63 win at Bart Valentine Court.

Junior forward Carly Meister (Elma, Wash./Elma) matched a career-high with 27 points to go with seven rebounds as the Raiders (8-1 overall) took their first lead with 7:57 left and never relinquished it, salvaging a split on the first weekend of Cascade Conference action.

Forward Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) pitched in 10 points and 10 rebounds for SOU, which also took advantage inside with an 18-point advantage at the free-throw line – 27-for-33 compared to the Knights' 9-for-16.

The Raiders trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half and only went 6-for-23 in the second, but that's where they made 23 of those free throws. A night after cold shooting doomed them in a 67-66 loss at Concordia, they shot 32 percent overall and kept WPC (5-7 overall, 0-2 CCC) at 36 percent.

Jordan Wilcox scored 16 points to lead the Knights, needing 17 shots to get there. Lindsay Loe had 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Knights, who went 0-for-10 from 3-point range in the second half, finally gave up their lead when SOU went on a 9-0 run, which was started by a Meister layup and completed with seven free throws for a 58-52 edge.

WPC twice cut the lead to two in the final minute, but Meister responded with a layup the first time and Autumn Durand (Onalaska, Wash./Onalaska) sealed the win on a layup with 11 seconds to play. Ashley Claussen (Scotts Valley, Calif./Santa Cruz) assisted both buckets.

Durand totaled eight points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Claussen had eight points, five assists and four boards.

The Raiders will be on the road for two nonleague games next week, Saturday at Cal Maritime and Sunday at Pacific Union.
