Box Score ASHLAND – For a team that had to wait a little longer than usual to play its first home match, Southern Oregon University seemed intent on getting in and out of Riehm Arena as quickly as possible Thursday night with Corban in town.

Motade Atanda (San Jose, Calif./Presentation) and Emma Gasman (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan) were dominant, SOU's passing was sharp and the Raiders wrapped up a 25-13, 25-12, 25-14 defeat of the Warriors in a tidy 59 minutes in the Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball opener for both squads.

Along with her match-high 14 digs, Atanda clocked 13 kills on 22 swings to lead an attack that collectively averaged .314 to Corban's .023. Gasman, a sophomore middle, had 10 kills on 18 attempts.

With their 23rd straight win in the series against Corban (3-5 overall), the Raiders improved to 7-2 going into Friday's 7 p.m. match opposite Northwest Christian (2-0).

"All in all, it was a good first outing because I think we played through some nerves really well, and that's exciting to see," SOU coach Josh Rohlfing said.

Paulla Pinheiro (Fortaleza, Brazil/Colegio Farias Brito) only needed two kills but sparked SOU from the service line. With the Raiders leading 13-7 in the first set, Pinheiro came through with four straight aces in the middle of a 13-3 run. She finished with five aces and added six digs.

Trailing 4-1 in the second set, SOU went on a 17-3 run during which the Atanda had five of her kills.

"I thought Tade played really well," Rohlfing said. "She did a good job in receive and, offensively, obviously her stats are going to shine. And Paulla just lit it up from the service line."

Shelby Young (Lincoln, Calif./Whitney) contributed six kills in two sets, Nikki Keller (Carson City, Nev./Carson) had five kills and five blocks, and Sam Boehnke (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) was perfect on three swings for the Raiders. Tyana Andrews (Rochester, Wash./Centralia) assisted 25 kills and Brookelynn Cole (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) had 11 digs as SOU committed just one receiving error to Corban's nine.

"We talk a lot about eliminating unforced errors – we want to be below six per set, and tonight we averaged about five, so that's a good number for us," Rohlfing added.

For the Warriors, Shantelle Hill notched six kills, Haley Meili had 10 assists and Katherine Salness went for seven digs.
