ATHERTON, Calif. Devin Poppen (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) and Taylor Johnson (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) both finished second to highlight five Southern Oregon University wrestlers who placed Saturday at the Menlo Invitational.

Poppen did his work at 133 pounds and Johnson did his at 197. Heavyweight Clayton Burtis (Colton, Ore./Colton) took third, 165-pounder Brock Crocker (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) and 197-pounder Brad Hyatt were fourth, and the second-ranked Raiders scored third of nine squads behind San Francisco State and Menlo in the team race.

Poppen, a freshman who is ranked No. 7 in the NAIA within his weight class, scored bonus points in all three of his wins – defeating Everett Pratt by major decision (13-3), Brennen Collins by first-round fall and Menlo's Brian Ha in a second-round fall. Warner Pacific's Joshua Crager pinned him in the 133 title match.

Johnson, the second-ranked 197-pounder in the NAIA, started with a first-round pin of Simpson's Eric Medina before working decisions over Immanuel Barber (4-1) and Cal Baptist's David Irish (5-1). He defaulted his first-place match.

Burtis won a 6-0 decision against San Francisco State's Jesus Campos in the quarterfinals before dropping a 5-3 decision to Steven Wood in the semis. He bounced back with a 7-1 win against teammate Alejandro Sandoval (Canby, Ore./Canby) in the consolation semifinals and pinned S.F. State's Tanner Black in 1:47 for third place.

After dropping his first match of the day, Crocker followed with a 6-1 decision over Alex Contini and a pin in 1:08 of Hunter Hodges (both unattached opponents). He was gifted a default over teammate Luke O'Connor (Glide, Ore./Glide) in the consolation semis before S.F. State's Vincent Aboytes got him 3-2 in the third-place match. Hyatt went 2-2 for his fourth-place standing, defeating Simpson's Henry Campos 16-5 in the quarterfinals and Barber 11-9 in the consolation semis.

Tanner Cannaday and Scottie Stockman (Sweet Home, Ore./Sweet Home) added two pins apiece for SOU at 149 pounds, while 174-pounder Cody Jones (Dallas, Ore./Dallas) and 194-pounder Max Hane (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg)s earned three victories apiece.
