No. 13 Southern Oregon completes sweep of Corban with 74-64 win

ASHLAND Autumn Durand (Onalaska, Wash./Onalaska) and Kristen Schoenherr (Rainier, Wash./Rainier) scored 18 points apiece and combined for 17 rebounds as the 13th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team defeated Corban, 74-64, Friday night at Riehm Arena.

Ashley Claussen (Scotts Valley, Calif./Santa Cruz) made three second-half 3-pointers and added 17 points, four assists and four rebounds for the Raiders (18-3 overall, 9-3 Cascade Conference), who broke a tie for second place in the standings with the win.

Corban (14-10, 8-4) was led by Tara Van Weerdhuizen's 18 points, six rebounds and six blocks.

The Raiders shrugged off a sluggish start, scoring the last nine points of the first half after trailing 30-25. Schoenherr ignited the rally with a 3-pointer before she and Demi Sahlinger (Napavine, Wash./Napavine) scored fast-break layups. Tiani Bradford (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) rebounded a Van Weerdhuizen block on the next possession and beat the buzzer with a jumper.

Corban bounced back at the beginning of the second half and grabbed a 38-37 lead before Claussen took it back with her first triple. Her next one extended what became a 9-0 run that made it 49-40.

Claussen shut down Corban's thoughts of making one last push when her final 3 made it 62-51 with 7:33 remaining.

The junior point guard went 4-for-6 from downtown and has now hit four 3-pointers in five consecutive games.

Durand scored 10 of her points in the second half for SOU, which shot 29-for-69 from the field.

Jade Lowery added 10 points for Corban, which was held to 35-percent shooting.

The Raiders completed a season sweep of the regular-season series with Corban. They're 9-0 at home this season and have won 12 straight dating back to last season.

Northwest Christian visits Riehm Arena on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
