ASHLAND – The Cascade Conference and Frontier offices announced Monday that four Southern Oregon University student-athletes were voted players of the week: Devvon Gage, Jaclyn McQuiston, Jessa Perkinson and Ray Schireman.

Gage, a redshirt-freshman linebacker from Salem, made a career-high 11 tackles in the second-ranked SOU football team's 37-30 overtime win Saturday at 16th-ranked Montana Western. The last of those tackles was made during the Raiders' overtime goal-line stand, when they made four consecutive stops to seal the victory after the Bulldogs had reached their 1-yard line. He was named the Frontier defensive player of the week for the first time.

McQuiston was voted the CCC women's soccer defensive player of the week after the Raiders won for the fourth and fifth times in six games on the road over the weekend. The senior from San Ramon, Calif., played all 197 minutes as SOU defeated Evergreen on Friday, 5-1, and defending conference champion Northwest on Saturday, 2-1 in overtime. The latter win was SOU's first against Northwest since 2009 and first in overtime in its last 10 tries. The Raiders have allowed two goals in their previous six games.

Perkinson, a sophomore from Roseburg, was the SOU cross country team's outstanding performer Friday at the San Francisco State Invitational in Golden Gate Park. She placed fourth of 232 runners, running 6,000 meters in 21:47.6. Her time was just eight seconds behind the winner and 86 seconds faster than her time on the same course last year.

Schireman, a sophomore from Medford, outdid his 2014 time at Golden Gate Park by 11 seconds. He finished the 8K in 25:16.7 to lead the top-ranked Raiders in 15th place of 240 runners. SOU took fourth in the team standings.
