ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University men's soccer team has overachieved plenty during its first season of existence, but it wouldn't hurt to do it twice more as the Raiders' Cascade Conference regular season wraps up this weekend.

SOU (10-6 overall, 5-6 CCC) hosts Carroll (8-5-1, 5-3-1) on Friday and Great Falls (7-5, 5-3) on Saturday at Raider Stadium. Both matches start at 5 p.m., and the first 200 fans through the gate at Friday's will receive an Operation Red t-shirt courtesy of Asante.

The matches are the biggest of the season for the Raiders, considering they're sitting in ninth place in the CCC standings and the top-eight teams will qualify for the postseason tournament Nov. 11-14 in Eugene. The Raiders are tied in points with eighth-place Great Falls, but the Argos have four CCC contests remaining and SOU has two. Likewise, Carroll is seventh in points and has one more game left than SOU.

Everyone but the top-three teams – No. 12 Rocky Mountain, No. 9 Corban and Evergreen – can still theoretically be caught, so the Raiders would be in fine shape with a couple wins regardless. But it's worth noting that Great Falls and Carroll both finish next weekend against winless Walla Walla and winless Multnomah.

Quick Strikes:
 – SOU is 3-1 at home but has been on the road five of its last seven games.
– The Raiders ended a 230-minute scoreless drought with a 3-2 win last Friday at Oregon Tech, getting goals from Dakota Scott, Paul Matyas and Brendan Allen, and assists from Johnnie Workman, Greg Rapet and Brett Butler.
–Allen scored his team-high eighth goal. He leads the CCC with five game-winning goals, four of which have been recorded during conference action.
– Twenty-nine of SOU's 36 goals have been scored by freshman. Diego Buenrostro has five, Ahmon Afenegus has four and five assists, and Dakota Marquez had four and three assists.
– SOU has a 20-11 advantage in goals scored after the first half.
Jonathan Morales earned his third keeper win in four outings with five saves at OIT.

About Carroll: A first-year associate member of the CCC, the Saints did themselves some big favors last weekend with wins against Evergreen (2-0) and Northwest (3-2). Jose Porras owns team-highs of nine goals, 52 shots and 23 on goal, while Isaac Bostrom has five goals and one assist. They've outscored conference opponents 15-12.

About Great Falls: After finishing 17-3 last season, the Argos were picked third in the CCC and had won six straight until getting shut out last weekend by Northwest and Evergreen. They've still allowed just nine goals in conference play and outscored opponents 28-18 this season. Jordan Byland and Luis Torres have five goals apiece, and Torres has four in conference play.
