ARCATA, Calif.
– Tuesday night's exhibition game against NCAA Div. II opponent Humboldt State was not costly for Southern Oregon, but it was a clunker nonetheless and an 86-63 loss at Lumberjack Arena.

Ben DeSaulnier scored 12 points and Tristen Holmes had 11 for the Raiders. Besides that, their performance was subpar from the field (22-of-52) and especially ugly from the free-throw line, where they made just 15 of 32 attempts.

The game was not an exhibition for the Lumberjacks. They went to 1-0 behind forward Rakim Brown, whose monster performance included 31 points, 18 rebounds and a 3-for-4 showing from downtown. He helped them dominate the boards (45 to 27) and was complemented by three others in double figures: Tyras Rattler (11 points), Nikhil Lizotte (10) and Thomas Witzel (10).

HSU, which has defeated SOU in exhibitions four of the last five years, led 46-25 by halftime.

The Raiders (4-1) will return to counting action Friday and Saturday at Oregon Tech's Midland Empire Insurance Classic against William Jessup and University of California, Merced. Both games tip off at 3 p.m.
