KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After kicking off their Cascade Collegiate Conference schedules with weekend sweeps at Ashland High, the Southern Oregon University men's and women's teams are now both the highest-ranked teams in the CCC.

The Raider men (9-2 overall, 2-0 CCC) went up three spots to No. 10 in the latest NAIA Div. II Top 25 poll, which was released Tuesday by the national office. The Raider women (8-0, 2-0), who are one win shy of the best start in team history, jumped two spots to No. 13.

They'll be there to stay until the next polls are released on Jan. 5.

The SOU men have lost only to a pair of top-15 NAIA Div. I squads (fourth-ranked Arizona Christian and 14^th-ranked Westmont) in games that were decided by a combined seven points, but the Raiders narrowly avoided defeat in each of their first two CCC games: They trailed by six with 20 seconds to play Saturday before forcing overtime and winning 86-84 against Corban, and didn't take the lead for good until the final 94 seconds of Sunday's 80-75 win over Northwest Christian.

The Raiders play a nonleague game at 2 p.m. Saturday at No. 23 Cal Maritime. They return to conference play Dec. 19-20 at Evergreen State and Northwest.

College of Idaho, ranked 18^th, is the only other CCC men's team currently in the poll after Oregon Tech dropped out from the No. 7 spot. Corban, NCU and Warner Pacific are all receiving votes.

SOU's women stayed perfect thanks to some lights-out shooting over the weekend, going 15-for-28 from 3-point range in Saturday's 112-66 win over Corban and 11-for-22 from downtown to defeat NCU 88-70 on Sunday.

The Raiders will travel to California for nonleague games Sunday at Pacific Union and Tuesday at Cal State Monterey Bay.

Oregon Tech is the only other CCC women's team in the poll at No. 23. Eastern Oregon, the preseason favorite to win the league, started 2-0 in conference but will be fighting uphill to get back into the rankings because it dropped four of five overall to start the season.
