Raiders end trip with two losses at Chico State

CHICO, Calif. – Playing its ninth and 10th games in the last five days, the Southern Oregon University softball team was sent home Sunday afternoon by Chico State with 9-1 and 14-2 losses that were done after six and five innings.

The Wildcats (3-1 overall) went up for good in the first innings of both contests, scoring two quick runs in the opener and five in the second game. Catcher Tori Zimmerman went 5-for-7 on the day with two doubles, six RBIs and four runs scored, and Alli Cook went 4-for-7 with five runs scored and three stolen bases.

In the first inning of the second game, Emily McEnaney jacked a three-run homer and Courtney Brown hit a solo shot two batters later. Desiree Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the opener.

For the Raiders (10-4), Kelsey Randall (Concord, Calif./Concord) went 4-for-5 in the twin bill with three doubles, a walk and both of SOU's runs in the second game. Megan Winton (Davis, Calif./Davis Senior) was 4-for-5.

SOU scored its run in the opener on a Winton single that brought home Alyssa Fielding (Novato, Calif./San Marin). Randall scored on a wild pitch and a double steal in the nightcap.

Brooke Langeloh earned both wins on the mound, totaling eight innings in which she struck out eight and allowed nine hits and three earned runs.

The Raiders will be back in Ashland for Wednesday's doubleheader against British Columbia, which begins at 1 p.m.
