ASHLAND – Before playing 12 straight away from University Field, the Southern Oregon University softball team is home Wednesday to host the latest leg of the University of British Columbia's tour of the West Coast.

The Raiders (10-4 overall) and Thunderbirds (2-8) will start their doubleheader at 1 p.m., with first pitch of the second game at approximately 3 p.m. The teams met last Friday at the Simpson Tournament and UBC scored four times in the first inning on its way to a 6-3 win.

That was one of the Raiders' lone blemishes in Redding, Calif., where they went 4-2 during the two-day gala. They'll partake in more tournament play this weekend at Concordia's Northwest Cup in Clackamas – playing Friday against Great Falls (Mont.) and British Columbia, and Saturday against 10th-ranked Simpson and Lewis & Clark.

SOU's 10-4 start is its best in 11 years.

Short Hops:

- Shortstop Kelsey Randall (Concord, Calif./Concord) was voted the Cascade Conference Player of the Week on Monday. She's sporting a .569 average with 29 hits – just 11 short of matching the most by a Raider the last two seasons – including two home runs, one triple and nine doubles.

- Six different Raiders have homered. Krystina Pardoski (Gaberville, Calif./South Fork)'s walk-off homer in the eighth inning against Hope International on Saturday was SOU's first since Kim Kraxberger's solo shot gave the Raiders a 1-0 win over Claremont (Calif.) on March 19, 2006.

- Also against Hope International, Brianne Craig (Rialto, Calif./Etiwanda) became the first Raider to finish off a complete game in extra innings without allowing an earned run since softball returned to SOU in 2001. She yielded four unearned in eight innings for the win.

- SOU has a team batting average of .365. Through 14 games last season it was .247.

- Among those who have show dramatic improvement since last season are Tyler Burke (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood) and Alexa Gonzalez (Menifee, Calif./Heritage). Burke was a .233 hitter last year and is off to a 10-for-22 start at the plate. Gonzalez hit .185, totaling 20 hits and three extra-base hits while starting every game, and at the moment is hitting .410 (16-for-39) with three extra-base hits.

- The Raiders have stolen 37 bases on 46 attempts. They went 44-for-49 in 2012 but were 19-for-34 the last two seasons combined. Randall's 11 steals match the most by a Raider since Strohm Fouty totaled 43 in 2009.

- Cheyenne Bricker (Bieber, Calif./Big Valley) is 5-1 on the mound and has made it through five innings while surrendering two earned runs or less in four of five starts.
