Balanced Raiders hit the gas after halftime for blowout of WPC

ASHLAND – The eighth-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team was in cruise control early before asserting itself in the second half in time to bank another blowout win Friday night, 82-56 over Warner Pacific at Riehm Arena.

Six players scored nine or more for the Raiders, who improved to  24-3 overall and 14-3 in the Cascade Conference while running their home win streak to 15 games dating back to last season.

First-place Eastern Oregon won 64-56 at Northwest University, meaning SOU has to win its tilt Saturday with Concordia and hope for a Mountaineer loss at Evergreen State to earn a share of the CCC title. Both regular-season finales tip off at 5:30 p.m.

SOU was led by Courtney West (Sydney, Australia/Port Hacking)'s 13 points and seven rebounds; Kristen Schoenherr (Rainier, Wash./Rainier)'s 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals; Ashley Claussen (Scotts Valley, Calif./Santa Cruz)'s 11 points, six rebounds and three steals; and Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale)'s 10 points and seven boards.

Tiani Bradford (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) had nine points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench, while Carly Meister (Elma, Wash./Elma) added nine points and four boards.

Schoenherr, Smith and West combined for 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting after halftime, helping the Raiders expand a nine-point lead with a 46-29 advantage in the second.

Jordan Wilcox scored 14 of her game-high 24 points in the second half for the Knights (11-18, 4-13).

WPC shot 30 percent in the game, and SOU pounced by going 19-for-31 in the second period. What was a 30-26 SOU lead with two minutes left in the first became 47-33 at the 15-minute mark.

The Raiders have won their last three home games by an average of 29 points.

WPC's Lindsay Loe and Kasara Brandenburg went for eight and seven points, respectively.
