ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Southern Oregon University softball team's season got off to a perfect start and Jessica Pistole earned her first two wins as Raider head coach Wednesday in an 8-1, 6-4 sweep at William Jessup.
Sydney White (Clovis, Calif./Clovis West) and Cheyenne Bricker (Bieber, Calif./Big Valley) delivered solid starts, Brianne Craig (Rialto, Calif./Etiwanda) came in for a couple saves and SOU received contributions up and down the lineup to start its season with consecutive wins for the first time since 2006.
White tossed four innings of shutout ball with a pair of strikeouts in the opener, giving way to Craig for the last three frames. Kelsey Randall (Concord, Calif./Concord) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base in her SOU debut, while three Raiders registered two hits apiece: Tyler Burke (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood) (one run, one RBI), Krystina Pardoski (Gaberville, Calif./South Fork) (two runs) and Cortney Nolan (Twin Falls, Idaho/Twin Falls) (one run, one RBI).
The eight runs matched SOU's output for its first seven games of last season combined.
In the nightcap, Bricker allowed two runs over five-plus innings of work before Craig came on to secure the win. Megan Winton (Davis, Calif./Davis Senior) drove in three runs on two hits, Gina Ayala (Norwalk, Calif./Santa Fe) had a two-run hit, and Alyssa Fielding (Novato, Calif./San Marin) added an RBI single. Pardoski was on base four times with three walks and a hit-by-pitch.
The games were originally scheduled to be played on Friday before rain altered the schedule. Weather pending, SOU will play an 11 a.m. game against Menlo and at 1 p.m. against William Jessup on Thursday.
