ROCKLIN, Calif. – Freshman infielder Kelsey Randall (Concord, Calif./Concord) is wasting no time providing some pop at the top part of Southern Oregon's lineup.
On her second day as a collegiate softball player, Randall went 7-for-8 on Thursday afternoon with a home run, five RBIs and four runs scored as the Raiders defeated Menlo, 15-2 in five innings, and William Jessup, 10-7.
The Raiders improved to 4-0 on the young season with next Wednesday's home twin bill against Hope International up next.
Brianne Craig (Rialto, Calif./Etiwanda) went the distance against Menlo for her first win, benefitting from Randall's four hits, three runs and three RBI. Freshman Kayla Douglas (Santa Rosa, Calif./Cardinal Newman) was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, freshman Davalin Ontiveros (Bakersfield, Calif./Centennial) went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, and junior Krystina Pardoski (Gaberville, Calif./South Fork) went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
Randall wasn't the only one to launch her first homer as a Raider in the win over William Jessup, which was SOU's third in two days: Megan Winton (Davis, Calif./Davis Senior) hit a three-run shot to push Cheyenne Bricker (Bieber, Calif./Big Valley) to her second win on the mound. Bricker came on in the second inning, after the Warriors struck four times in the first, and got through the sixth before Craig entered for her third save.
Gina Ayala (Norwalk, Calif./Santa Fe) (one run, one RBI) and Tyler Burke (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood) (two runs) added two hits each in the nightcap. Jazmin Ruvalcaba (Carson, Calif./Banning) also had an RBI knock.
The Raiders' 39 runs through four games match are more than they scored through the first 12 of the 2014 season. They hadn't been 4-0 since 2003.
