Andrews, Raiders win 12th straight in brief meeting with Multnomah

ASHLAND – The eighth-ranked Southern Oregon University volleyball team settled into cruise control early Friday evening and didn't have to labor much to remain undefeated, sweeping Multnomah 25-14, 25-15, 25-9 at Riehm Arena.

Tyana Andrews put down 12 kills on 19 attacks and had six digs for SOU, which established a new season-best attacking average (.356) for the second straight match while improving to 12-0 over and 5-0 in the Cascade Conference.  SOU will go for 13 straight at 5 p.m. Saturday against Warner Pacific.

The first-ever meeting between Multnomah – a first-year member of the NAIA and CCC – and the Raiders lasted 56 minutes. The Lions fell to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in the CCC.

Every Raider with multiple kills besides Andrews attacked at an average of .500 or better: Corynn Kopra (7 kills, 8 digs), Niki Small (6 kills, 4 blocks), Courtney Macklin (3 kills), Lauren McGowne (3 kills, 7 digs) and Laura Morse (3 kills).

McGowne ran the show with 30 assists, while Ashlyn Flynn held down the back row with 12 digs.

The Raiders scored the first four points of the first set, getting consecutive Kopra kills, and never trailed. They went on runs of 5-0 and 8-0 in the second set, and in the third set scored 10 consecutive points with Andrews serving to break a 4-4 tie.

Andrews had three of SOU's eight service aces. Flynn and Ariana Sattler added two apiece.

Multnomah was led by Patricia Batoon's 11 kills and Marissa Rhodes's 16 assists.

SOU has now swept eight consecutive matches and won 25 straight sets overall.
