Lambert's goal gives Raiders 1-0 triumph at Corban

SALEM Presley Lambert delivered in the 49th minute, halting the Southern Oregon women's soccer team's five-game skid with a 1-0 victory Friday afternoon at Corban, its first of the Cascade Conference season.

The teams combined for just nine shots on goal, but Lambert made hers count with an assist from freshman Sarah Garoutte. Lambert, who now has two goals this season and nine in her three-year career, buried the shot from the right post into the back of the net. The assist was Garoutte's first career point.

SOU, which had lost its first two CCC games by 2-1 scores, improved to 2-6-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Raiders will play their seventh consecutive road game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against Northwest Christian.

Corban (3-6, 1-2) made a push for an equalizer in the 83rd minute, but SOU keeper Kylie Moltzen  made two saves of shots by Corinne Tank and Emma Kosmala in a 20-second span.

Moltzen made four saves to bring her career shutout total to 10.5, the third-most in SOU history. The shutout was the Raiders' first since a 12-0 game Sept. 2 against Simpson – also their last win.

The last time SOU and Corban met, the Warriors eliminated the Raiders from the Cascade Conference tournament in the first round, advancing in penalty kicks.
