No. 16 Raiders roll over Beacons, improve to 9-0

ASHLAND – The 16th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team's attack rediscovered its rhythm Saturday evening at Riehm Arena, allowing the Raiders to stay perfect with a 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 sweep of Northwest Christian.

A night after their most inefficient offensive showing of the season against Corban, the Raiders (9-0 overall, 2-0 Cascade Conference) put that performance behind them early. They took leads of 12-1 in the first set and 10-0 in the second, trailing only briefly at the beginning of the third.

Tyana Andrews deposited 12 kills on 23 attacks to go with six digs, Corynn Kopra added eight kills and Lauren McGowne had 30 assists in leading SOU to a .274 attacking average.

The Beacons dropped to 7-2 overall and 0-2 in the circuit.

"I was very happy with how we came out and started each set really strong," SOU head coach Josh Rohlfing said. "I think we got a little comfortable after that and I'd like to see that piece change, but as a whole we were so much better and much more terminal with our attacking."

The win was SOU's 13th straight at home dating back to 2013.

Niki Small helped again with seven kills and a team-high three assisted blocks, while Laura Morse matched her in the attacking department and collected eight digs. Ashlyn Flynn had a match-high 13 digs.

Northwest Christian – which hit .060 as a team a night after Corban hit .008 – was led by Carissa Allen's seven kills and Marsha Poischberg's 27 assists. The Beacons remained winless in 11 trips to Ashland.

SOU will attempt to prolong its best start in 24 years next weekend in Washington, with matches Friday at Evergreen and Saturday at Northwest.
