Totushek scores, Raiders break team shutouts record at UGF

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – If there was any bitterness regarding an overtime penalty kick that resulted in its first conference loss 24 hours earlier, the Southern Oregon women's soccer team didn't let it linger in Saturday afternoon's 1-0 win over the Great Falls Argos.

The Raiders (11-4-1 overall, 8-1 Cascade Conference) responded to Friday's 1-0 loss at Carroll by earning a road split and breaking the team record for shutouts in a season with their 11th.

In the 25th minute, Lisa Elledge took a corner kick that went off the hands of UGF keeper Kyra Dorvall and in the direction of Makena Totushek. From six yards out, Totushek had room and fired in her third goal of the season.

The Argos (3-10-1, 3-7-1) were quiet with the ball all day, generating just two shots on goal. Their opportunity was narrowly missed in the 75th minute, when Madison Quinn lined a 23-yard free kick off the crossbar.

The Raiders had seven shots on goal and a 17-7 edge in total shots.

Their shot at the program's first conference title will come down to next weekend, when they host College of Idaho (3-4-1 CCC) on Friday and Rocky Mountain (4-4 on Saturday). SOU needs four points – two wins or a win and a tie – to overtake Carroll (8-0-3), the defending champion, for the outright championship and an automatic bid to the NAIA Championships. Both games will start at 2 p.m. at Raider Stadium.

SOU is 7-0 this season at home, where it has yet to allow a goal.
