Raiders stop skid with four-set win at Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Southern Oregon shrugged off a sluggish start Saturday evening and took care of the Evergreen State Geoducks in four sets – 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 at the Costantino Recreation Center.

In dominating the final three sets, the Raiders (10-9 overall, 7-5 Cascade Conference) completed a season sweep of the Geoducks (4-14, 3-9), ended a three-match losing streak and salvaged a weekend road split.

Courtney Macklin put down 13 kills on 28 attacks – her highest total of the year outside SOU's five-set win against Evergreen on Sept. 9, when she had 15 – and matched a season-high by assisting eight of the Raiders' 12 blocks. Emma Gasman helped in the middle with 10 kills and four blocks, while Lauren McGowne helped the Raiders attack at an average of .199 with 42 assists to go with 10 digs and two blocks.

SOU's defense was sharp all around, getting 24 digs from Ashlyn Flynn and a season-best 17 from Natalie James. Taylor Ristvedt (eight kills) and Ariana Sattler (six kills) assisted six and four blocks, respectively.

Nila Lukens contributed nine kills, her highest total in a month, on 29 swings.

The Geoducks were led by Natalie Taylor's 17 kills and 14 digs and Matisse Davis' 10 kills, five digs and four blocks.

After hitting 196 in the opening frame, the Geoducks didn't get over .057 the rest of the way and ended at .081.

The first set featured 14 ties; there were seven combined in the final three.

SOU is home next Friday and Saturday to play Warner Pacific and Multnomah.
