McArthur strikes again, SOU extends shutout streak against Eagles

ASHLAND – The winning template Southern Oregon has deployed often this year – pairing a Megan McArthur goal with an impenetrable defense – was effective once more in Saturday's 1-0 decision against Northwest (Wash.).

McArthur scored her eighth goal of the season, and her fourth game-winner, in the 18th minute, when Lauren Aldana passed out of the box and set up a centered, 20-yard shot for McArthur, who struck with her left foot and precisely lined the ball just inside the right post.

The rest was familiar: Northwest got off seven shots on goal, most of them were of less-than-ideal quality and Kylie Moltzen saved them all, allowing SOU to play keep-away late.

The Raiders (9-3-1 overall, 6-0 Cascade Conference) and Carroll (6-0-1 CCC) are the only teams left without a conference loss, and they appear to be on a first-place collision course to an Oct. 21 matchup in Helena, Mont. First, SOU will host Oregon Tech at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Eagles dropped to 7-4 and 3-2.

The Raiders' six-game conference win streak matches the longest since they won seven in a row in 2003. Their updated tallies are as follows: six straight shutouts, nine for the year, 743 game minutes since they last allowed an NAIA team to score, and a 14-0 scoring advantage in CCC action.

Of less significance, NU had an 11-7 advantage in shots.

McArthur – who has scored in all six SOU home games this season – upped her career goals total to 19. Aldana's assist was her second of the season.

SOU has won two straight against Northwest after going winless in the previous six meetings.
