McArthur sinks Beacons in 82nd minute, leads SOU to semis

SPRINGFIELD – A day after she was named the Cascade Conference's offensive player of the year, senior forward Megan McArthur showed why again Friday afternoon while lifting Southern Oregon to a 1-0 win over Northwest Christian in the quarterfinal round of the CCC tournament.

In the 82nd minute of a scoreless game, reserve forward Facienne Graham attempted a shot that was saved by Beacons keeper Mackenzie Galick but ricocheted out to McArthur, who connected from five yards out for her 10th goal of the season. Graham was credited with her fourth assist.

The second-seeded Raiders (13-5-1 overall) got out of the first round for the fourth time overall and the third time in four years. They'll play an opponent yet to be determined – the highest remaining seed will be matched with the lowest remaining seed – at 5 p.m. Saturday in Springfield, attempting to reach the final for the first time in team history.

Seventh-seeded NCU, which also dropped a 2-0 decision to SOU in the regular season, was making its first postseason appearance and finished with a record of 7-11-1.

SOU keeper Kylie Moltzen made four saves, including two after the goal was scored, to secure SOU's 13th shutout of the season.

The Raiders only put four shots on goal, too, but had advantage of 12-6 in shots and 9-2 in corner kicks with eight in the second half.

SOU improved to 11-0-1 all-time against the Beacons. The Raiders have given up one goal in the teams' last eight meetings.
