Martin sparks Raiders in 88-74 win at WPC

PORTLAND – Southern Oregon dominated the first 32 minutes and survived the final eight Saturday night against Warner Pacific, walking away with an 88-74 Cascade Conference victory at Bart Valentine Court.

Senior guard Justin Martin sparked the Raiders (10-6 overall, 4-2 CCC) with five first-half 3-pointers, and Ben DeSaulnier went 7-for-13 from the field and 3-for-4 from downtown with 22 points and seven rebounds.

SOU built a 45-26 halftime lead by going 9-for-17 from 3 and led by as many as 31 points in the second half. The Raiders were up 70-43 with 8:19 left before the Knights stormed back with a 29-9 run – during which Collin Malcolm scored 17 of his 26 points.

Up 79-72 with 2:30 to play after a Malcolm triple, Tristen Holmes made four straight free throws and DeSaulnier nailed a step-back 3 to help the Raiders pull away.

They finished 30-for-62 from the field and 11-for-22 from outside against WPC's zone, which Kenny Meyer helped them pick apart with eight assists. Holmes finished with 14 points and five rebounds, Jordan Hunt had 12 points and five rebounds, and Hunter Bradford pulled down seven boards.

SOU has won three straight games on WPC's home floor after losing 12 of its previous 13.

The Raiders play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Oregon Tech at Mountain Avenue Gym. Behind 6-0 Eastern Oregon, five teams are tied for second place (including SOU and OIT) with 4-2 records.

WPC, which lost 84-82 on Friday against Oregon Tech, fell to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the CCC.
