Raiders set team hits record, close in on division title with sweep of UBC

SURREY, B.C. – As expected, the hunt for the Cascade Conference's West Division title and the right to host the CCC tournament will come down to Saturday, the final day of the regular season, after both No. 22 Southern Oregon and No. 19 Oregon Tech took care of business on Friday.

SOU and OIT remain tied for the division lead (SOU owns the tiebreaker) as both swept teams at the bottom of the division Friday. The Raiders (32-14 overall, 13-5 CCC West) dominated British Columbia (11-24, 7-11) by scores of 16-1 and 3-0, while OIT (27-16, 13-5) took two from Northwest (11-27, 3-15) by scores of 11-1 and 5-0.

SOU and OIT will swap opponents on Saturday. First pitch for the Raiders at Northwest is slated for 11 a.m.

The Raiders jumped on UBC pitching with 21 hits in the opener – their most in a single game since the program was revived in 2001 – and scored 13 runs over the first three innings, eventually shortening the game to five innings with the mercy rule in effect. The top four in the order were particularly unsolvable: Kelsey Randall went 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, Rebecca Velasquez was 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs score, Kayleen Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Alexa Gonzalez was 2-for-2 with three runs.

In Game 2, the Raiders went ahead in the second inning on a two-out throwing error that scored Amelia Hensler. In the fifth, Smith tacked on a two-run single that plated Gonzalez and Randall. Aaliyah Oliver had two of their six hits.

SOU received two more dominant pitching performances from Sydney White (13-7) and Victoria Mackey (14-2). White allowed three hits in four shutout frame in the opener, while Mackey went all seven in Game 2 while allowing six hits with two walks and a strikeout for her second shutout of the season.
