Southern scores three in first half to down Tech in opener

KLAMATH FALLS – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team scored three times in a first-half ambush of Oregon Tech, giving it sufficient cushion to eventually secure a 3-1 season-opening win Saturday afternoon in nonleague play at Steen Sports Park.

Kelsey Randall, Megan McArthur and Aislinn Waite scored for the Raiders, while Lauren Aldana and Facienne Graham assisted. SOU has now won nine straight games when scoring multiple goals and is 7-1-1 against OIT since the start of the 2010 season.

The Raiders were in control from the start, building a 9-1 shots advantage in the first half on the way to a 15-7 edge for the game. Nine of those were put on goal.

Randall opened up the scoring in the 10th minute, when she dribbled across the box and fired in the first goal of the season. McArthur was next in the 19th, taking Aldana's pass and launching from straight on just outside the box.

McArthur's goal was the 12th of her career, putting her in a tie for ninth place on SOU's all-time list. Four of those have been recorded in her last five games played.

A pair of freshman making their Raider debuts, Waite and Graham, teamed up for the final goal less than two minutes before halftime. Graham lofted a pass to Waite, who directed it in with her head for the pair's first collegiate points.

Jodie Reoch assisted Salyna Blue for OIT's only score in the 67th minute.

The Raiders are unbeaten in their last six openers. They'll be off for two weeks until they host UC Merced at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7.
